CAT 5 Cabling
Category 5 cabling is commonly referred to as CAT5 cabling. CAT5 cabling is a twisted pair cable used for carrying signals. Cat 5 cabling is used mainly used in computer networks, but can also be used to carry telephony and video signals.
CAT 5 cabling can handle 10/100 Mbps speeds (Fast Ethernet) at up to 100 MHz bandwidth.
CAT5e cabling is short for Category 5 (enhanced), it’s essentially an upgrade over CAT5. CAT5e is the most frequently used cabling in businesses at the moment.
How long can I run CAT5 and CAT5e cabling?
You can run CAT5 and CAT5e cables to a maximum length of 100 meters, if your network infrastructure requires more than 100 meters worth of cabling, you will need to use repeaters to amplify the signal or upgrade to a fibre solution.
